About Us

The Friends of Normanton Park got together in 2014...
We began small, by planting some crocus bulbs... (see Our Gallery)
We became bigger and wrote a formal constitution in October 2015, which includes these aims:

1.  To contribute towards the conservation, enhancement and promotion of Normanton Park and its facilities.
2.  To encourage local residents of to take an active interest in the development, protection, upkeep and enjoyment of the park.

Then we became more ambitious and held a couple of events - outdoor Christmas carols and children's treasure trails.  In September 2016, we were even more ambitious and held our first Friends of Normanton Park Family Fun Afternoon.

At the end of 2016, GREEN THYME opened up the old café building and began their regular activities at the new Community Hub.
Since then, we've run several joint events - in June 2018, we were selected as one the major venues nationwide for the Jo Cox Great Get Together weekend. Check out the events' page to see what we've done already, and what's coming up next.

Besides Green Thyme, we have developed a number of contacts with Derby City Council Parks, Derby Homes, local Police and Councillors, Derby Mashup and many more organisations. (See the Partners page) But the most important contacts we've made are with those regular park users who give us the encouragement to keep going. If you would like to join us or share your memories of the Park with us, please visit our Join Us page and leave a message.

The Park is a very safe and well-loved environment. However, on occasion things happen which shouldn’t. You can report them to the Police by ringing 101 or you can email us if you think we need to know about something.
